No Funchal, a Zona Velha da cidade ganhou uma nova vida.


This time the artists came down to the city.
In Funchal, the old part of the city (Zona Velha) has a new life.

O Projecto Arte de Portas Abertas é um projecto para abrir as portas da cidade do Funchal à arte e à cultura. Eles não são "entradas virtuais", são apenas antigas e esquecidas. Estas portas são lojas abandonadas, espaços em ruínas que agora assumem uma nova vida, com o objectivo de sensibilizar a população, enchendo as vias de eventos culturais e artísticos.



It is a project to open the doors of the city of Funchal to art and culture. They were not "virtual entrances" rather old and forgotten. These doors are from abandoned shops and deteriorated areas that take on new life, in order to sensitize people filling the streets with cultural and artistic events.

Estas intervenções incluem todas as artes visuais, desde a pintura, à escultura, à fotografia, ao vídeo, à música e a escrita.

These interventions include all the visual arts, from painting, sculpture, photography, video, music and writing.

A Rua de Sta Maria, no Funchal, era uma rua triste com algumas casas abandonadas e semi destruídas, onde alguns restaurantes lutavam para impor o seu espaço e a sua gastronomia.

Rua Santa Maria in Funchal, was a street saddened by some abandoned and semi destroyed houses, where some restaurants struggled to impose its space and its gastronomy.

A requalificação daquela parte velha da cidade proporcionou o aparecimento de novas ideias e que deram frutos em pouco tempo.

The requalification of that old part of town brought the appearance of new ideas and that paid off in no time.


Com imaginação e alguns recursos de baixo custo, a rua foi transformada numa atracão turística e de referência em toda a cidade, só se falando, por todo o lado, sobre a rua das portas pintadas.

With imagination and a few low-cost resources, the street was transformed into a tourist attraction and a reference throughout the city, where everybody mentions the street of painted doors.

Hoje, esta rua, onde os passantes se tornaram parte integrante de uma galeria, é um local de encontro obrigatório e transformou-se num ícone da cidade.

Today, this street, where passers-by became an integral part of a gallery, is a mandatory meeting point and has become a city icon.

Projecto Faróis

O Projecto Faróis de Portugal é uma ideia original do Fernando, da GeoDuplaP&F.

Com o Projecto Faróis de Portugal pretendemos identificar a história dos faróis portugueses, a sua “linguagem” e instrumentos, histórias de naufrágios na costa portuguesa, lendas à volta dos locais dos faróis e claro, identificar as caches que “prestam homenagem” a estas tão importantes estruturas. Com o apoio do GeoPT.org estamos a dinamizar as caches que fazem referência a estas estruturas, que são um marco na nossa paisagem.

Nesta primeira fase foi criada a página do projecto, consultável em http://faroisdeportugal.geopt.org/.

Estamos agora a contactar todos os owners de caches que se incluem no projecto para os convidar a aderir ao projecto:

• Colocando/ adaptando a listing da cache para contem informação sobre o farol (se ainda não tiver)

• Colocando o banner do projecto

A próxima fase do projecto passa pela divulgação de todas as caches que estão/ fazem referência a esta estrutura.

Depois, a 3ª e última fase, tentará criar uma página dinâmica, com informação sobre todos os faróis existentes em Portugal e com referência às caches do projecto. Caldeirão Verde

This course, starting at the cache Queimadas (Santana) and finishing at Caldeirão Verde, has an extension of 6 Km and it is at 990 meters high.

The course will lead you to an earthcache created in 2008 having earned many favourites.

This track is extremely rich in its landscape surrounded by water falls, fauna and flora.

At a certain point, you will find several tunnels. The longest has 220 meters.

After enjoying the beauty of Caldeirão Verde, and if you do not suffer from vertigo, you can go on by the levada (with no fence) until Moria and Caldeirão do Inferno.

Boca dos Namorados

A Boca dos Namorados, constitui juntamente com a Boca da Corrida, a Quinta do Jardim da Serra, o Pico da Torre e o Cabo Girão uma das mais importantes referências turísticas do concelho de Câmara de Lobos, isto naturalmente sem contar com a Eira do Serrado que apesar de não fazer parte do concelho deve a sua importância à soberba paisagem da freguesia do Curral das Freiras, que a partir dele se desfruta. 

Boca dos Namorados (Valentine's Viewpoint), is together with the Boca da Corrida, the Quinta Jardim da Serra, Pico da Torre and the Cape Girão one of the most important tourist landmarks of the municipality of Câmara de Lobos, this of course not to mention Eira do Serrado that although not part of the county owes its importance to the beautiful landscape of the Curral das Freiras (Nun's Valley), which you can enjoy from it.

  

Ainda que hoje relegado ao abandono, a Boca dos Namorados viveu anos áureos e chegou a constituir mesmo um ponto de visita obrigatória de estrangeiros. Todos os dias chegavam ao Estreito turistas que iam admirar as cordilheiras das mais altas e grandiosas montanhas, seguindo e voltando de rede da igreja para cima.  

Although now relegated to the abandonment, Boca dos Namorados lived heydays and was once a mandatory point of visit for the tourists. Every day tourists would arrive to Estreito Câmara de Lobos and would admire the Cordilleras of the tallest and grandest mountains, going and returning by foot or being transported in a net carried by two men.

  

A Boca dos Namorados foi durante muitos anos ponto de passagem para aqueles que queriam se deslocar até ao Curral das Freiras, devido ao percurso pedestre que liga estes dois pontos. 

Numa época em que os automóveis ainda não chegavam ao Curral das Freiras, juntavam-se na Boca dos Namorados pessoas de todo o concelho esperando pelos romeiros que se deslocavam até às festas do Curral das Freiras. Ali reuniam-se e junto a improvisadas barracas com comes e bebes, festejavam e cantavam.

Boca dos Namorados was for many years a crossing point for those who wanted to move down to Nun's Valley, due to the pedestrian path that connects these two points.
At a time when cars have not yet reached the Nun's Valley, people from all over the county joined in Boca dos Namorados waiting for the pilgrims who returned from the feasts in Nun's Valley. There they would gather next to improvised stands with food and drink, feasting and singing.

  

ORIGEM / ORIGIN

Segundo o poeta câmara-lobense Joaquim Pestana a origem do epíteto Namorados é de poucos conhecida. Diz a tradição que para ali viera um sujeito, por nome Pêro, que se enamorara duma linda menina chamada Ignez. Como Pêro não lhe pudesse falar a cada momento, em razão de viver separada por aquele abismo, fazia, qual outro Leandro, acordar aqueles vales com o doce nome de - Ignez! que sempre lhe era correspondido com o nome de - Pêro!

According to the local poet Joaquim Pestana the origin of the epithet "Valentine" is little-known . Tradition has it that a man had gone there, named Pêro, who feel in love with a beautiful girl named Ignez. As Pêro could not talk to her whenerver he wished, due to the abyss that existed between them, he would wake up those valleys shouting the sweet name of:

- Ignez!
And from the other side, far far away... he would be answered:
- Pêro!

Depois do log feito, caso esteja bom tempo e queiras tirar partido de uma vista de 360º sobre o Curral das Freiras, Funchal e Câmara de Lobos podes subir 100m até ao Pico dos Bodes. Para isso tens de voltar ao estacionamento e subir, atravessar a cerca (32º41,793 / 16º58,852), continuar a subir e encontrarás o Pico dos Bodes (32º41,838 / 16º58,885)

After the log is done and just if the weather is good and you want to to benefit from a 360 ° view on the Nun's Valley, Funchal and Câmara de Lobos you can climb 100m up to Pico dos Bodes.For this you have to go back to the parking lot and climb through the fence (32 ° 41.793 / 1658.852), continue to rise and you will find the Pico dos Bodes (32 ° 41.838 / 16 58.885)

Calhau da Lapa

There are at least four good reasons to visit Calhau da Lapa (Limpet Stone):

• the guarantee that you will find here the cleanest waters of the island 
• the soothing tranquillity of this place!
• the amazing waterfalls that delight canyoning lovers
• the great multi-cache that waits for the adventurous geocachers.

Located in Campanário and hidden at the bottom of a steep slope, this beach offers crystal clear waters as a reward for those who decide to follow the difficult paths. We advise you to use comfortable shoes, not sandals, when you start your way down to Calhau da Lapa. Half of the path is paved and the other half is a dirt track. The landscape is dry but the horizon is all blue sea and the prospect of a well-deserved dive encourages you to continue.

 
 This beach is not paradise on earth, at least not if your idea of paradise depends on luxuries such as sun beds, parasols and a refreshing cocktail in your hand…but if peace of mind and crystal clear waters are on your priority list, then this is the ideal beach for you!
