Começamos na Ilha, que ascendeu a freguesia em 1989, pertencendo ao Concelho de Santana. Abrange uma área de 1500 hectares, limitados pelas freguesias de S. Jorge, de Santana e pela divisão dos concelhos de Câmara de Lobos e Santana, estabelecida no cume do Pico Ruivo.

Para chegar à cache terás de percorrer várias pequenas e íngremes veredas que se cruzam com estradas de terra. Opta sempre pelas veredas pois são mais bonitas. Outro dos truques é seguir as placas que indicam "Pico Ruivo".

Nesta altitude encontrarás uma das florestas indígenas da Madeira – Floresta Laurissilva, localizada na zona de nevoeiros, entre os 1200 e os 400m de altitude. Esta floresta adquire especial importância porque a água dos nevoeiros condensa-se nas folhas das plantas e quando chega ao solo, recarrega as nascentes e as ribeiras.

É ainda provável que aviste o Bisbis (Regulus ignicapus madeirensis), mais pequeno dos pássaros que povoa a Madeira e também o curioso Tentilhão (Fringilla coelebs) que facilmente se aproxima dos caminhantes. Com alguma atenção, poderá avistar o Pombo trocaz (Columba trocaz trocaz), a atravessar os vales mais profundos, onde predomina a floresta Laurissilva.
