The municipality of Calheta is the most extensive of all municipalities of the archipelago, as it covers about 116 km2, which corresponds to 15% of the total area of Madeira Island.
Situated between the south and extreme west of the island, it was one of the first places to be populated.
Calheta offers a great variety of attractions and caches. These include monuments and museums to visit, beautiful and quiet places to relax or make a picnic, awesome places and conditions to do various sports, and viewpoint's with wonderful landscapes.
