MONTE


O Monte é uma das mais populares atracções fora da capital. Tem vistas fantásticas sobre a baía do Funchal e tem a famosa Igreja do Monte do século XVIII onde está sepultado o Imperador da Áustria. Aqui poderá visitar o jardim público do Monte, o Jardim Tropical Monte Palace e o seu museu, o jardim botânico e fazer a descida da encosta até ao Funchal nos cestos do Monte que foram inventados em 1850 como meio de transporte.

Monte is one of the most popular attractions outside the capital. It has fantastic views over the bay of Funchal and has the famous Monte Church of the eighteenth century where the Emperor of Austria is buried. Here you can visit the public garden, the Tropical Garden Monte Palace and its museum, the botanical garden and descend the hill to Funchal in the typical toboggan sledge which were invented in 1850 as a means of transport.

Outro meio de transporte são os dois teleféricos que ligam o Monte ou ao Funchal, ou ao Jardim Botânico; rápido, fácil e muito popular tanto entre os locais como entre os turistas.

Other means of transportation are the two cable cars connecting Monte or to Funchal, or to the Botanical Gardens, fast, easy and very popular both with locals and with tourists.

Passear neste jardim faz-me pensar nas pessoas que provavelmente se apaixonaram aqui, em senhoras com longos vestidos e sombrinhas a protegerem-nas do sol, acompanhadas de cavalheiros com bengalas…

To walk in this garden makes me think of people who probably fell in love here, ladieswith long dresses and umbrellas to protect them from the sun, accompanied bygentlemen with canes...


Fá-lo pensar em quase tudo… Pode ainda contemplar a igreja de Nossa Senhora do Monte e a sua impressionante escadaria. É aqui que se encontra a sepultura do Imperador da Áustria, Carlos I.

It makes you think in nearly everything... Don't forget to visit the church and its impressive staircase. This is where lies the grave of the Austrian Emperor, Charles I.
