Between the "Ribeira da Caixa", which flows into "Lugar de Baixo", and "Ribeira da Ponta do Sol", "Lombada da Ponta de Sol" stretches from sea to mountain.
No século XVI, a cana sacarina era a cultura dominante naquelas terras. Com os dinheiros da grande produção açucareira João Esmeraldo mandou construir a maior e mais faustosa casa solarenga do mundo rural madeirense e, à beira do solar, uma capela em honra do Espírito Santo.
In the sixteenth century, sugar cane was the dominant culture in those lands. With the money from sugar production João Esmeraldo built the largest and most ostentatious manor house in rural areas in Madeira, and near the house, a chapel in honor of the Holy Spirit.
Cinco séculos depois a casa solarenga e a capela ainda lá estão no meio dos campos. Alguns deles ainda produzem cana de açúcar. A capela é muito rica e elegante merecendo uma visita atenta.
Five centuries later, the manor house and chapel are still there in the middle of the fields. Some of them are still producing sugar cane. The chapel is very rich and classy and deserves a closer look and visit.

Atrás da capela encontrarás a Levada do Moinho. Percorre a levada até a próxima etapa.

After this stage, you can visit the beginning of "Levada do Moinho" going till the main water stream, but to find the fourth stage you have to go up here:
- STAGE 4 - FENDA / CRACK
Continua a subir e encontrarás a Levada Nova. Se fores em direcção à origem da levada encontrarás a cache.
Continue to climb and you'll find "Levada Nova". If you head for the origin of this levada you'll find the cache.
- FINAL STAGE
Agora estás pronto para encontrar a cache final. Segue as pistas dadas na stage 4.
Now you're ready to find the final cache. Follow the given hints in stage 4.
Depois de encontrares o buraco certo faz o teu log, segue o túnel de 200m e continua o teu passeio pela Levada Nova. No final apenas tens de descer 700m até ao carro.
After you find the right hole, log your visit, follow the 200m tunnel and continue your tour in "Levada Nova". In the end you only have to descend 700m to the car.
Informações e Recomendações:
- É recomendado levar um pequeno lanche e água.- É necessário uma lanterna para atravessar o túnel.
- A levada têm sido alvo de recuperação, no entanto ainda apresenta muitas zonas sem protecção.
- Por vezes as Levadas são estreitas e apresentam mau estado.
- Existem diversas zonas com pequenas cascatas que caem em cima do percurso sendo recomendada a utilização de um impermeável.
- Percurso total: 10km
- Tempo: 3 a 4 horas
Information and Recommendations:
- It is recommended to bring a snack and water.
- You need a flashlight to go through the tunnel.
- The levada has been recovered, but still has many areas without protection.
- Sometimes the levada is narrow and has poor conditions.
- There are several areas with small waterfalls dropping over the levada, so I recommend to use a raincoat.
