Esta cache começou precisamente pela curiosidade.
Foi a curiosidade de descobrir o que estava naquela estrada, que segredos ela escondia.
Por vezes a vontade de seguir em frente cega-nos e os obstáculos parecem muito mais simples do que na realidade são.

This cache started precisely by curiosity.
It was the curiosity to find out what was on that road, what secrets she was hiding.
Sometimes the desire to go on blinds us and the obstacles seem much simpler than they really are.




Partilho esta história pois é comum nos deixarmos levar pela curiosidade de encontrar uma cache e esquecermos que se calhar não estamos devidamente preparados, ou não temos tempo suficiente ou as "ferramentas" necessárias.

I am sharing this story because it is common to get carried away by curiosity to find a cache and we forget that maybe we are not prepared, or we do not have enough time or the necessary "tools". 

Imaginem então que um geocacher meteu o seu carro normal numa estrada de terra pois não conhecia a zona e achava que haveria algo interessante por lá. A estrada começa a ficar pior, mais molhada, com declive mais acentuado e sem espaço para voltar para trás. De repente ele desperta para a realidade... sai um grande "UPS!"

Depois de uma pequena saída para ver as vistas, as suspeitas confirmam-se e as preocupações aumentam... o carro não sobe! Seguiram-se 2h30 de pesquisas por 7,5km de estradas de terra à procura daquela que tivesse menos obstáculos a ultrapassar. Felizmente correu bem...

Let's imagine that a geocacher took his normal car on a dirt road because he didn't know the area and thought there would be something interesting there. The road starts to get worse, wetter, with a steeper slope and no space to turn back. He suddenly awakens to the reality... "UPS!"
After a small walk to see the sights, his fears are confirmed and his concerns increase ... the car does not go up! A 2h30 search and a 7.5 km walk followed.. searching for the dirt roads that had fewer obstacles to overcome. Fortunately all went well...

This cache is advised to 4x4 vehicles but can also be a short walk through nature.

Fajã do Rodrigues

Este trilho tem início nas Ginjas, no Concelho de São Vicente, e acompanha a esplanada da levada Fajã do Rodrigues ou Levada Fajã da Ama, duas designações por que é conhecida, terminando na madre da levada, na Ribeira do Inferno.

This trail begins at Ginjas in the municipality of São Vicente and follows the walkway beside the Fajã do Rodrigues levada or the Fajã da Ama Levada, the two names by which it is known, ending at the source of the levada in Ribeira do Inferno. 

Esta levada, traçada à altitude de 580 metros nasce no leito da Ribeira do Inferno, que separa as terras do Seixal das de São Vicente, e serpenteia por lombos e pequenos vales até ao sítio do Rosário, com a finalidade de irrigar os campos agrícolas de São Vicente.

This levada lies at an elevation of 580 metres and has its source in the bed of the Ribeira do Inferno stream, which separates the lands of Seixal from those of São Vicente and winds across ridges and through small valleys up to Rosário, to be used for the irrigation of the farm fields of São Vicente. 

A floresta exótica com que se deparará no início do trilho, com pinheiros (Pinus pinaster) e eucaliptos (Eucalyptus globulus) antecede a densa vegetação característica da floresta natural – Laurissilva, Património Mundial Natural pela UNESCO, desde Dezembro de 1999. 

The exotic forest which you encounter at the beginning of the trail, with maritime pines (Pinus pinaster) and eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus), precedes the dense vegetation characteristic of the native forest – the Laurisilva, World Nature Heritage of UNESCO since December 1999. 

As quedas de água e as frequentes linhas de água garantem uma vivacidade às espécies como os seixeiros (Salix canariensis), bem como aos grandes tis (Ocotea foetens), aos vinháticos (Persea indica), aos folhados (Clethra arborea) que ao longo da levada se sucedem. Não esquecendo também as espécies floridas, como os gerânios (Geranium palmatum), as estreleiras (Argyranthemum pinnatifidum), as orquídeas da Serra (Dactylorhiza foliosa) e os ranúnculos (Ranunculus cortusifolius) ou mais conhecidos por doiradinhas devido à sua coloração amarela. 

Waterfalls and frequent streams guarantee vitality to the species such as the Canary willow (Salix canariensis), as well as the large Madeira laurel (Ocotea foetens), Madeira mahogany (Persea indica), and the Lily-of-the-Valley tree (Clethra arborea) that abound along the levada. You’ll also notice the flowering species, such as geraniums (Geranium palmatum), Mandon’s Chrysanthemum (Argyranthemum pinnatifidum), Madeiran orchid (Dactylorhiza foliosa), and Canary buttercup (Ranunculus cortusifolius), easily recognised by their bright yellow flowers.  

Os túneis são uma constante ao longo da levada; por entre as várias passagens entre os diversos e extensos túneis poderá apreciar as belas panorâmicas que a paisagem sobre o vale de São Vicente proporciona. 

Tunnels are common along this levada, and as you pass between the many, long tunnels, you will have a chance to appreciate the beautiful panoramic views of the São Vicente Valley landscape.  








Poderá avistar alguns dos pássaros que povoam a zona confinante a este trilho, desde tentilhões (Fringilla coelebs maderensis), aos pequeninos pássaros como o Bis-bis (Regulus ignicapillus maderensis), que fazem pulsar este ecossistema e o convidam ao prazer dos sons.

You may catch sight of some of the birds that inhabit the areas that border this trail, from chaffinches (Fringilla coelebs maderensis), to the tiny birds such as the firecrest (Regulus ignicapillus maderensis), which give life to this ecosystem and please the ear with their songs.  

Deixe-se envolver pelo cenário à sua volta, admirando os vales que caem sobre o leito da Ribeira, e prepare o fôlego para o regresso.

Let yourself be enthralled by the scenery that surrounds you, as you wonder at the valleys that drop down to the bed of the stream and catch your breath for the return trip.

Esta é uma multi cache simples com apenas duas etapas. Na primeira etapa encontrarás as coordenadas para a stage final. A levada percorre vales profundos pelo que o sinal GPS será fraco. Deverás ter sempre em atenção a Hint e o Spoiler.

This is a multi cache with just two simple stages. In the first stage you will find the coordinates for the final stage. The levada  runs through deep valleys and the GPS signal may be weak. You should always bear in mind the Hint and the Spoiler.

Existem ao longo do percurso túneis pequenos e um longo, pelo que a lanterna é obrigatória. 

Os túneis apresentam zonas estreitas e baixas.

Um impermeável é recomendado.

As caches e a vegetação que as esconde deverão ser tratadas com cuidado para não serem danificadas.

Pedra Branca

Esta cache irá vos conduzir até um dos percursos obrigatórios na ilha do Porto Santo.

É um percurso relativamente rápido, que permite ao caminhante que visita a ilha do Porto Santo, num programa diário de barco ou avião a partir da ilha da Madeira, explorar a ilha, desfrutar da magnífica praia de areia, ou dar umas tacadas de golfe, enquanto aguarda o transporte de regresso.
A zona faz parte da Rede Natura 2000.


This cache will lead you to one of the compulsory trails on the island of Porto Santo.
It is a relatively fast track, which allows the traveler who visits the island of Porto Santo, on a daily program of plane or boat from the island of Madeira, explore the island, enjoy the magnificent sandy beach, or have a golf swing, while waiting for the return transport.
The area is part of Natura 2000.

O trilho inicia-se na estrada regional E.R.111. Seguindo o caminho que dará acesso ao topo do Pico Branco, deparamos com uma enorme formação prismática na qual a própria vereda foi talhada - a Rocha Quebrada. 

The trail begins at regional road E.R.111. Following the path that will give access to the topof Pico Branco, we come across a huge prismatic formation in which the footpath itself wascarved - Rocha Quebrada.



A parte mais íngreme do percurso está ladeada por uma vedação de urze. A subida termina numa falha na rocha da Crista do Cabeço.

The steepest part of the route is lined with a fence of heather. The climb ends in a rock fissure at Crista do Cabeço.

A vereda segue por entre uma paisagem com predominância de cupressus (Cupressus macrocarpa) até encontrarmos a bifurcação que nos leva, à direita, à Terra Chã e, à esquerda, ao Pico Branco, segundo pico mais alto do Porto Santo. 

The footpath goes through a landscape with a predominance of cupressus (Cupressusmacrocarpa) until we find the fork leading to the right, to Terra Chã, and to the left to Pico Branco,the second highest peak of Porto Santo. 

O Pico Branco ganhou o nome devido à existência de uma coluna de pedra branca, onde antigamente havia muita urzela, a qual era exportada do Porto Santo para a produção de tintas e de outras especialidades afins.

Pico Branco was named due to the existence of a column of white stone, where once there was a lot of heath, which was exported from Porto Santo for the production of paints and other related specialties.

A área do Pico Branco integra a rede europeia de sítios de interesse comunitário - Rede Natura 2000, Directiva Habitats, por apresentar a existência de endemismos de flora e fauna (moluscos terrestres - caracóis).

The area of Pico Branco integrates the European network of Sites of Community Interest -Natura 2000 Habitats Directive, for presenting the existence of endemic flora and fauna (terrestrial molluscs - snails). 

Este é o sítio da ilha do Porto Santo onde foi registada a maior quantidade de flora indígena melhor conservada, por se encontrar protegida pelo relevo abrupto, em escarpas dificilmente acessíveis. A vegetação indígena é, maioritariamente, herbácea e arbustiva.

This is the site of the island of Porto Santo where it was registered the largest number of indigenous and best preserved flora, because it is protected by steep topography, in hardly accessible cliffs. The indigenous vegetation is mostly grass and shrubs. 

Aqui podemos encontrar duas espécies de aves marinhas de relevo como a Cagarra (Calonectris diomedea borealis) e o Garajau comum (Sterna hirundo).

Here we can find two species of seabirds as Cory's Shearwater (Calonectrisdiomedea borealis) and the Common Tern (Sterna hirundo). 

Os inúmeros miradouros naturais que oferece esta vereda permite vislumbrar grande parte da ilha do Porto Santo / The many natural vantage points offered by this pathway provides a glimpse of much of the island of Porto Santo: 

Calhau da Serra de Dentro, Pico do Concelho, Ilhéu de Cima, Pico do Maçarico, Portela, Rocha de Nossa Senhora, Pico Ana Ferreira, Espigão dos Morenos, Calheta, Ilhéu de Baixo.

Esta vereda foi traçada de propósito para a passagem dos burros com carga quando os locais semeavam cevada na Terra Chã. O regresso é feito pela mesma vereda.

This trail was built on purpose for the passage of loaded donkeys when the locals sowed barley on Terra Chã. The Return is done on the same path.

Por debaixo da Terra Chã fica a Furna dos Homiziados, antigo esconderijo de foragidos, onde, segundo a tradição, várias pessoas se esconderam fugidas da lei e das investidas de pirataria dos argelinos. Conta a lenda que, numa dessas emergências, o tecto da furna abateu sepultando quantos lá se abrigavam.

Underneath Terra Chã is Furna dos Homiziados (Cave of the fugitives), a former hideout for outlaws, where according to tradition, many people hid as fugitives of the law and from piracy assaults by the Algerians. Legend has it that one of those emergencies, the ceiling of the cave fell, burying those who were there.
