Aventura Encantada

Bem-vindo à Aventura Encantada.
Welcome to the Enchanted Adventure.

You will find in this journey a number of challenges and obstacles created by mythological figures who inhabit this area. On your side you will have the nymphs that will help you overcome some of the dangers you will face.

Your first mission is to find the correct path for this journey. To do so you must follow the trail left by Naiads, a water nymph. To help you out she sent a little stream of water from her pond that will guide you to her.

Soon you will arrive to the enchanted Gate of Courage. This is the door that separates our world from the enchanted world. Many were those who did not return as the spell says that after going through this gate you can not return without first completing your mission.

Shortly after you will see on your left side a cave. This is the cave of Pan. Pan is the god of woods, fields, of flocks and shepherds. He lives in this cave and wanders through the valleys and mountains, hunting or dancing with the nymphs. Lover of music, he always carries a flute. If you hear the sound of his flute do not dare to enter his domain.

Continue your jorney and you will reach the pond of Naiads, the water nymph. Although she is your ally, she may become dangerous if you drink or bath in her waters.

In this area you can also find Kitsune, a magical and intelligent being. He has the ability to take human form, and is known to deceive humans. The Kitsune can have up to nine tails and can fly, become invisible and often create thunder and lightning. This creature can manifest itself in people's dreams and create illusions so elaborate that seem to be real.
Certainly it will try to distract you from your route and get you to dangerous directions. Pay attention to your surroundings and find the right path!

O Leshy protege animais selvagens e as florestas.

Leaving the kingdom of the water nymph you will now enter the kingdom of Dryad, nymph of the forest. In her kingdom you will find the fearful Black Forest, inhabited by Leshy. The Leshy protects wildlife and forests. They usually appear as tall men, but have the ability to change size and mutate into any form of animal or even like plants. Leshies have a beard made of grass, and generally have tails, hooves and horns. The creature has pale skin and dark green eyes, and they are the kings of the forest. When in human form, the Leshy looks like a common peasant, but his eyes are brighter. They can be reduced to the height of the grass or get the size of the tallest tree. It is believed that these creatures can cause people to be lost or get sick and even cause them to die. The Leshies are not always bad, but they like to fool humans.

In order not to get lost in the Black Forest, and to escape from a undesired meeting with the Leshy, you should follow the path that Dryad marked for you. Beware that the path is sometimes confusing.

Many are those who successfully overcome the Black Forest and inadvertently lower their defenses facing the challenge that follows. You will be now before the Plain of Púca.

Púca is a mythological fairy, very good in changing forms. She can turn into horses, rabbits, goats, dogs and goblins. But whatever form it takes, her coat is always dark, and she often appears in this area as a dark grey rabbit with orange eyes. She has the power of human speech and is known to like confusing people. Púcas like puzzles and are very sociable, and also like pranks on
distracted people and children. You should be aware of the holes and stones placed by Púca in your way. You can also find mushrooms along the way. Please note you should not touch these bewitched mushrooms. Many were those who touched these mushrooms and were transformed into dry bushes.

The Plain of Púca ends on the steep entry into the Mountain of the Centaur. The Centaur, a symbol of brute,
foolish and blind force, eats raw meat, so you should avoid him. To do so you have to follow the path that Oreades, nymph of the mountains, built in the middle of gorse. The gorse will protect you from the Centaur, but you must be careful not to get stinged.

Desde a torre poderás avistar o teu ambicionado tesouro. Ao encontrares o tesouro estarás protegido e ganharás a tua saída deste Mundo Encantado.

Once this challenge is completed you will have to find extra strength to climb till the Griffin Tower. The Griffin is a legendary creature with the head and wings of an eagle and a lion's body. It is from this tower that he watches the surroundings and protects its nest. He always makes its nest near treasures of gold and would lay eggs on nests of gold. From the tower you can spot your coveted treasure. When you find the treasure you will be protected and you will earn your way out of this enchanted world.

Boa Sorte!
Good Luck!

Pensas que tens um TT?

"A cura para o tédio é a curiosidade. Não existe cura para a curiosidade."
"The cure for boredom is curiosity. There is no cure for curiosity."
(Ellen Parr)

This cache started precisely by curiosity.
It was the curiosity to find out what was on that road, what secrets she was hiding.
Sometimes the desire to go on blinds us and the obstacles seem much simpler than they really are.

I am sharing this story because it is common to get carried away by curiosity to find a cache and we forget that maybe we are not prepared, or we do not have enough time or the necessary "tools".

Felizmente correu bem...

Let's imagine that a geocacher took his normal car on a dirt road because he didn't know the area and thought there would be something interesting there. The road starts to get worse, wetter, with a steeper slope and no space to turn back. He suddenly awakens to the reality... "UPS!"
After a small walk to see the sights, his fears are confirmed and his concerns increase ... the car does not go up! A 2h30 search and a 7.5 km walk followed.. searching for the dirt roads that had fewer obstacles to overcome. Fortunately all went well...

This cache is advised to 4x4 vehicles but can also be a short walk through nature.

I encourage you to share in your log one or other more complicated situation in which you were involved.

Fajã do Rodrigues

Video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TpEM2kdYimw

This trail begins at Ginjas in the municipality of São Vicente and follows the walkway beside the Fajã do Rodrigues levada or the Fajã da Ama Levada, the two names by which it is known, ending at the source of the levada in Ribeira do Inferno.

This levada lies at an elevation of 580 metres and has its source in the bed of the Ribeira do Inferno stream, which separates the lands of Seixal from those of São Vicente and winds across ridges and through small valleys up to Rosário, to be used for the irrigation of the farm fields of São Vicente.

The exotic forest which you encounter at the beginning of the trail, with maritime pines (Pinus pinaster) and eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus), precedes the dense vegetation characteristic of the native forest – the Laurisilva, World Nature Heritage of UNESCO since December 1999.

Waterfalls and frequent streams guarantee vitality to the species such as the Canary willow (Salix canariensis), as well as the large Madeira laurel (Ocotea foetens), Madeira mahogany (Persea indica), and the Lily-of-the-Valley tree (Clethra arborea) that abound along the levada. You’ll also notice the flowering species, such as geraniums (Geranium palmatum), Mandon’s Chrysanthemum (Argyranthemum pinnatifidum), Madeiran orchid (Dactylorhiza foliosa), and Canary buttercup (Ranunculus cortusifolius), easily recognised by their bright yellow flowers.

Tunnels are common along this levada, and as you pass between the many, long tunnels, you will have a chance to appreciate the beautiful panoramic views of the São Vicente Valley landscape.

You may catch sight of some of the birds that inhabit the areas that border this trail, from chaffinches (Fringilla coelebs maderensis), to the tiny birds such as the firecrest (Regulus ignicapillus maderensis), which give life to this ecosystem and please the ear with their songs.

Let yourself be enthralled by the scenery that surrounds you, as you wonder at the valleys that drop down to the bed of the stream and catch your breath for the return trip.

Pedra Branca

The trail begins at regional road E.R.111. Following the path that will give access to the topof Pico Branco, we come across a huge prismatic formation in which the footpath itself wascarved - Rocha Quebrada.

The steepest part of the route is lined with a fence of heather. The climb ends in a rock fissure at Crista do Cabeço.

The footpath goes through a landscape with a predominance of cupressus (Cupressusmacrocarpa) until we find the fork leading to the right, to Terra Chã, and to the left to Pico Branco, the second highest peak of Porto Santo.

Pico Branco was named due to the existence of a column of white stone, where once there was a lot of heath, which was exported from Porto Santo for the production of paints and other related specialties.

The area of Pico Branco integrates the European network of Sites of Community Interest -Natura 2000 Habitats Directive, for presenting the existence of endemic flora and fauna (terrestrial molluscs - snails).

A vegetação indígena é, maioritariamente, herbácea e arbustiva.

This is the site of the island of Porto Santo where it was registered the largest number of indigenous and best preserved flora, because it is protected by steep topography, in hardly accessible cliffs. The indigenous vegetation is mostly grass and shrubs.

Here we can find two species of seabirds as Cory's Shearwater (Calonectrisdiomedea borealis) and the Common Tern (Sterna hirundo).
