RIBEIRA GRANDE

A nossa viagem irá nos levar até um dos vales mais profundos da ilha. Este vale tem a sua origem no maciço central da ilha e é banhado pela Ribeira Grande de São Jorge.

Our journey will take us to one of the deepest valleys of the island. This valley has its origin in the central massif of the island and is bathed by the "Ribeira Grande de São Jorge".

Na zona onde a cache se encontra iremos estar rodeados de montanhas gigantes que escondem trilhos interessantes que nos levam a sítios mágicos como o Caldeirão Verde de um lado e o Ribeiro Bonito do outro. Ao centro, pela ribeira acima esconde-se à espreita o Caldeirão do Inferno.

In the area where the cache is located we will be surrounded by giant mountains that hide interesting trails that lead us to magical places like "Caldeirão Verde" on one side and "Ribeiro Bonito" on the other. In the center, above the stream hides lurking the "Caldeirão do Inferno".

Esta aventura tem o seu início na Fajã do Penedo, na costa norte da Madeira, no vale da Ribeira do Porco. Deverás estacionar o teu carro aqui:

This adventure has its beginning in "Fajã do Penedo", on the north coast of Madeira in the valley of "Ribeira do Porco". You should park your car here:

Caso tenhas um veículo 4x4 poderás seguir a estrada florestal que irá te levar até à casa da levada.

Pela estrada irás usufruir de belas vistas sobre a Fajã do Penedo, o Lombo do Urzal e toda a beleza da floresta que te rodeia.

If you have a 4x4 you can follow the forest road that will take you up to the levada house.

Along the road you will enjoy beautiful views over "Fajã do Penedo", "Lombo do Urzal" and the beautiful forest that surrounds you.

Ao chegares à casa, segues pela esquerda e encontrarás o tunel (N 32° 47.513 W 016° 57.477).

Este túnel de 2480m está em muito boas condições apresentando no entanto algumas zonas mais baixas, pelo que devemos ter em atenção possíveis pancadas com a cabeça. Obviamente que a lanterna é obrigatória. O túnel não tem curvas pelo que é possível veres bem ao longe uma pequena luz que marca o fim do túnel.

When you get to the house, take the left and you will find the tunnel (N 32° 47.513 W 016° 57.477).

This tunnel has 2480m and is in very good condition but it has some lower areas, so you should be aware of possible strokes in your head. Obviously, the flashlight is mandatory. The tunnel has no curves so you can see far away a little light that marks the end of the tunnel.

Depois de ultrapassado este obstáculo, é com enorme prazer que finalmente chegamos à Ribeira Grande. Descansa um pouco e aproveita para observar tudo aquilo que te rodeia.

Once you overcome this obstacle, it is with great pleasure that we finally arrive at "Ribeira Grande". Rest a bit and take the opportunity to observe all that surrounds you.

Agora terás de atravessar a ribeira e encontrar o pequeno trilho que liga, aproximadamente 300m mais acima, ao trilho para o Caldeirão Verde.

Ao encontrares a árvore do spoiler terás de encontrar a melhor maneira para chegar até à cache.

Now you have to cross the stream and find the little trail that connects, approximately 300 meters further up, to the trail heading to "Caldeirão Verde".

When you find the tree in the spoiler you will have to find the best way to get to the cache.

O sinal GPS na zona é muito fraco pelo que é importante seguir a hint e levar as imagens spoiler!
